Galatian Expedition Event

Magnesia Aftermath, The Galatian Expedition Cold Wars 2004 A.D.

James Mattes fields Romans and Galatians in a classic confrontation between the civilized and the uncivilized. Trained and ripe for war the Romans march to glory against the noble Galatians. Follow the path to glory with James and the AOMW using Classical Hack!

Above is a photo of James Mattes who has put on a number games at Cold Wars and Historicon. James has approached ancient gaming by putting on the same battle scenario(s) using several different game systems. Here James used Classical Hack. James then compares and contrasts the results in relation to each system on various Yahoo Groups. This is not only time consuming but reveals James' unrivaled enthusiasim for gaming. Take note that James cleverly entices interest by placing a source book and a Roman helmet on the table. Both were out standing tokens used in sparking interest in ancient miniature gaming.

Here is a birds eye view of the battlefield.

In this view you can see the various portions of the battlefield like the Roman buildings. When James designs his scenario he not only researches the battle but also configures methods of employing each system he uses. Figuring how best each will work.

James came up with a technique I often use to give a little gravity to a scenario game; objectives. In this case a Roman camp would yeild 10 points for being captured by the Galatians.

Like wise a Galatian piece offers an enticing opportunity for the Romans to gain 40 victory points. At the game's end each player will count up loses in not only figures but lose of strategic positions on the battlefield for both sides. Truly this objective taking in regard to army and unit mission adds to the scenario.
