Caesar's Legions: Where Size Makes A Difference

A Sound Basing

The Legion

In Classical Hack or any of the other periods using the core Hack system, rebasing is not required providing figures are mounted with the same frontages. However, we prefer a standard 60mm frontage. Basing will provide players a great latitude in Classical Hack. Here for instance is another way to mount figures which does not require tons of lead. Below is a single legion. You are looking at a legion of 10 cohorts.

The legion depicted above is in close order. This works well in Classical Hack and allows players with few figures to field a realistic looking array. Each stand represents a cohort. Each figure represents about 90 real figures. This is based on a cohort of 360 men. Unlike the previous section on the legion we have permitted each stand to represent the individual cohorts. When using this style of basing players can reconstitute units as found in the rules. That means if a unit has losses other units who have also lost figures can join together to reconstitute the unit to their original strength. The reconstituted unit will drop one morale class as the men would notbe familiar with their new comrades. Also the men would be disheartened by losses thus reducing their ability to function to their normal capacity.
